The Eagles made a strong statement in their opening game, stunning Uganda with a 17–7 victory.
The Eagles were tactical and caught their opponents off guard, setting the tone for an eventful group stage. Abdul Jalilu Yussif made the first try for Ghana with captain Selom Gavor converting.
The Eagles continued their push and made another try through Godfrey Ramaboea. Abdul Jalilu Yussif made his second try to give the Eagles 17 points to zero lead at half time. Uganda came in strong in the second half and made a try and conversion. The Eagles held on to stun the defending champions.
The Eagles however could not sour higher in their second game against Kenya another highly ranked side. The Eagles fell to them 33 points to zero.
The Eagles bounced back in emphatic fashion, crushing Côte d’Ivoire 29 points to 0 in their final group game. A combination of solid defense and sharp attacking saw Ghana finish Day One with two wins and a loss—an impressive showing in a competitive Pool A.
