Every year in Kumasi the May 9 Foundation, led by Mr. Herbert Mensah, the then Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko when the incident occurred, has been organizing memorial walks to commemorate the day.
The purpose of the 24th edition of the walk, is to remember the victims and preach against hooliganism at stadiums. It attracted more than one thousand people.
The walk started from the Airport Roundabout through major roads including the Angloga Junction, the Labour Roundabout, the Asafo Interchange, Dunkirk before ending at the Jubilee Park. Some participants urged the organizers to continue to throw light on the impact of hooliganism in football.
The General-Secretary of the Ghana Rugby Football Union, Mr. Sacut Amenga, said hooliganism is still common in football hence the need for the walk. A Board Member of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Madam Rafatu Inusah, appealed to all to help curb violence in sports, regardless of the outcome of competitions.
