Ghanaians in Israel Choose to Stay Amid Gaza Strip Conflict

Many young Ghanaians residing in Israel are opting to remain there despite the escalating conflict between the country and Palestine.

In an interview on JoyNews's The Pulse, Seth Cudjoe, a Ghanaian resident in Israel, expressed his hesitancy to return home immediately due to his newborn child's need for stability and care.

"For now, I am not planning to come back to Ghana. I can't leave my wife and rush back to Ghana. Besides, the Ghanaian community here is not ready to leave unless the situation worsens," he shared.

Seth also mentioned that the Ghanaian community in Israel is waiting for more options before considering leaving the country.

Seth mentioned that he stays connected with Ghanaian officials who provide regular updates on measures to avoid being caught in the crossfire.

"The Ghanaian community in Israel feels safer here. With the support of the Embassy, they have communicated and provided us with instructions on what to do and what not to do. They have advised us to stay indoors if we have no urgent business outside, to ensure our safety," he explained.

In recent days, there has been a deadly attack by Hamas militants on southern Israel, leading to increased hostilities between Israel and Palestine over the Gaza Strip.

Israel has reported over 600 deaths and 100 kidnappings as a result of the conflict, while Gaza has witnessed at least 313 deaths due to retaliatory Israeli air strikes, according to Palestinian officials.

Despite this situation, the Israeli Mission in Ghana believes that an immediate evacuation is premature. They have assured that they will protect the lives of all individuals, including Ghanaian citizens, residing in the region.
