Cecilia Dapaah Denies Allegations of Undeclared Real Estate Business
The former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has firmly denied the Office of the Special Prosecutor's (OSP) accusations that she is involved in an undisclosed real estate business.
In a youth-friendly response, Dapaah stated that the OSP has failed to provide any evidence to support their claim.
The court document presented by the Office of the Special Prosecutor alleges that Cecilia Abena Dapaah "engaged in undisclosed and undeclared real estate business, using aliases to disguise ownership and receiving proceeds of transactions in her bank account and investments." These claims are part of the OSP's efforts to confirm the seizure of properties believed to be linked to Dapaah.
However, in a swift response to the court, the former Bantama MP has vehemently denied the allegations. She clarifies that she only sold a property on behalf of her deceased mother.
Dapaah further explains, "I have no real estate business and the applicant has failed to provide any evidence whatsoever. In fact, the applicant's own Exhibit OSP16 shows that I sold the property in a representative capacity for Nana Yaa Ode."
Nana Yaa Ode, also known as Nana Ode Nyarko, was Dapaah's mother who has since passed away.
In addition, Dapaah accuses the OSP of abusing her silence during the ongoing case and urges the court to expedite the proceedings. She notes that the OSP used her caution statement, taken earlier, to freeze her accounts and seize her cash again, despite a previous court order.
"On September 5, 2023, the Applicant re-seized my money and re-froze my bank accounts, and now, he is trying to justify his actions by referencing my decision to remain silent on September 7, 2023," Dapaah asserts in her affidavit.
To ensure a fair resolution, Dapaah's counsel contends that the OSP cannot rely on her caution statements (Exhibits OSP10 and OSP6) taken after the re-seizure and re-freezing of her assets.
