World Table Tennis Day is celebrated on 23 April, honoring Ivor Montagu, organizer of the first World Table Tennis Championships in 1926 and the founder and first president of the ITTF.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Diversity and Inclusion”. Here in Ghana Leadership of the Kita Kinder School at Lakeside Estate in Accra in collaboration with the Ghana Table Tennis Association, GTA, has inaugurated a table tennis academy.
Named the “Kita Kinder table tennis academy” the objective of the pre-school table tennis program is to introduce table tennis to kindergarten and children with the aim of arousing their interest and teaching them the basic skills of the sport. Talented and promising young talents will be invited to join the national teams for further grooming.
The Parent teacher Association chairman of the Kita Kinder School, Madam Elizabeth said the timing of the launch was crucial. The head coach of the Academy, Mr Francis said they will soon be a hub that produces talent for the national teams.
Some student says they can’t wait to join the Academy. The Technical Director of the Ghana Table tennis Association, Mr. Charles Tachie-Menson, promised his outfit full support for the Academy.
Some national team players and coaches said the academy will give meaning to inclusiveness. By embracing diversity and inclusion, World Table Tennis Day 2025 will aim to reinforce the principle that table tennis can become a symbol of unity, equality and mutual respect across the globe.
