Six home-based players are leaving to join their six other foreign-based players to prepare for the Rugby Africa Men’s 7s tournament, set for June 21 and 22 at the Labourdonnais Sports Club.
The Eagles will be competing in Group B alongside Kenya, Uganda, and Côte d’Ivoire. The Eagles, currently without government funding, are relying on limited private sector backing and the determination of players drawn from across the globe—including South Africa, France, the UK and Ghana.
The President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union, Miss Rafatu Inusah, says they are hoping to get support from government and corporate organisations to ensure the team’s success.
A member of the Eagles, Nhyira Owusu Ansah, promised to raise the flag of the country higher.
The Eagles are aiming to finish within the top eight but is ultimately targeting a top three placement that could lead to qualification for the global Challenger Series. Ghana’s first match is against Uganda, the defending champions.
