ACCRA: 10TH EDITION OF MILLENNIUM MARATHON LAUNCHED

Since its inception in 2015, the Millennium Marathon has steadily grown into a globally recognized brand, drawing thousands of athletes from around the world.

This year is no exception, with an estimated 12,000 athletes expected to participate. The Co-Founder and Race Director of the Millennium Marathon, Mrs Catherine Morton, described this year’s event as a “rebirth” of the marathon – one designed to inspire social impact while preserving the unique culture that defines the race.

This year’s edition is also set to see a significant increase in prize money. The first-place winners in both the men’s and women’s categories will receive GHC 75,000, while second and third place will take home GHC 50,000 and GHC 30,000 respectively.

Also, athletes who place between 4th and 25th will receive consolation prizes. An extra incentive of GHC 10,000 will also be awarded to any athlete who breaks and sets a new course record.

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, commended KGL, the marathon’s prime sponsor, for their investment in sports and urged other corporate bodies to emulate their example to further the growth of sports in Ghana. The Millennium Marathon will take place on September 6 in Accra.
